Mountain Snow & Fun

Mountain Snow & Fun

The Team-Building Area
Three different short activities and one goal – let’s do it together! An avalanche probe is a very useful tool for off-piste skiing, but it can also be used to test the participants’ team skills. The team members are set up in two rows facing each other. Each team member holds out one finger in front of them and an avalanche probe is placed on their fingers so they all hold it together, each member touching the probe with one finger. The challenge is to lay down the probe onto to the snow without anyones finger losing contact with the probe. Sounds like a piece of cake? Think again! It is, in fact, incredibly difficult and requires perfect team work and coordination. This game is great fun! Wow-effect guaranteed.

The team ski is the real wintersport team highlight. A team of five must use one pair of giant skis with five pairs of bindings to get from one point to another. It only works if everyone acts as a team!

Balancing on the wobbly slackline half a metre above the ground is pretty tricky. The goal of this activity is to get all the team members from one side of the slackline to the other. What might seem impossible in the beginning is, in fact, only a question of finding the right way or working together. That’s the team slacklining.

The Zipflbob Race Area
Old school is new school! The Zipflbob mini-bobsleigh was invented in the early 80s and then forgotten for some years. Now it’s made a roaring comeback and is without a doubt one of the coolest ways to have fun on the snow. Participants will have loads of fun riding their Zipflbob down a specially designed course. Beware, though – once you start, you’ll never want to stop!

The Snow Art Workshop and Exhibition Area

Working together to create something unique, long-lasting and special in a very short time – that’s snow art! Starting off with nothing more than a huge heap of snow, the participants form teams comprising participants from across the globe to carve, drill, shape and sculpt with a range of different tools, creating a unique piece of art for the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games, which will then be displayed in the Snow Art Exhibition Area. Each team will give their creation a title and a description to tell visitors the story behind their amazing piece of art.

The Final Team Activity
A major event like the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games needs a big final team activity involving everyone. That is the idea behind the “team lift”. The activity starts with a large plate with tiny ropes tied to its rim and the Innsbruck 2012 mascot Yoggl sitting in the middle. Lifting the plate is very hard on your own, but if each member of a team holds on to one of the ropes and everyone works together as one group, the plate suddenly becomes as light as a feather. This is the perfect activity for rounding off the Innsbruck 2012 experience.

Urban Sports

Urban Sports (Pakour)

JUGGLING, ACROBATICS, UNICYCLING – Balls, clubs, diabolos, rings, spinning plates, devil sticks – there is almost nothing you can’t juggle with! Perfection, style and speed are the name of the game as jugglers push the limits of gravity by keeping more and more items in the air and performing breathtaking tricks. As well as juggling, plenty of other challenges will be available for you to test your coordination and balance. Walking globes, unicycles, balance boards, tightrope – working on your balance requires concentration and endurance, but it’s also loads of fun!

PARKOUR – Parkour and free-running are two of the fastest-growing motion arts worldwide, and these days it is hard to imagine films, TV or the internet without them. The Parkour and free-running workshop will give you a basic insight into the ideas behind this mix of sport and art. Based on respect for your own body and your environment, it is all about the community (one family) and sharing the passion for creative motion. In the workshop, you will learn different techniques to pass obstacles, as well as acrobatic skills like flips and spins, from stars and pros from the scene. The workshop is held in a sports hall equipped with gymnastic apparatus, special Parkour obstacles and natural obstacles.

SELF-DEFENCE – Self-defence is designed to be efficient and effective in real-life situations. As well as teaching the basics techniques, we will and show you how to defend yourselves effectively in case of an emergency. Self-defence integrates anatomical and biomechanical principles. This workshop is perfect for everyone, regardless of age, sex or fitness.

SLACKLINING – A slackline is a piece of elastic webbing spanned between to fixed points. Slacklining is good for practising balance skills and strengthening the body’s core muscles. Another positive effect is that the training also helps to improve posture. Try out this new type of balance training!

CHALLENGE DISC – Test your balance and coordination skills with an intelligent feedback training, five-level coordination training or one of six games. You’ll see, it’s great fun!

REACTION TEST – Test your coordination (hand-eye coordination; foot-eye coordination) and your reaction time. It only takes five minutes!

MINI TABLE-TENNIS
– Table tennis requires fast reactions and an excellent feel for the ball – and playing mini table tennis is even more of a challenge! Compete with your friends and see who will be the champion at the end of the day

SPORT STACKING – Sport stacking is a new trend-sport which requires several skills, with excellent hand-eye-coordination and total concentration crucial. The aim of sport stacking is to stack twelve cups up and down in a defined pattern as fast and as possible without them falling down.

Ice Stock Sport

Eisstockschießen

The workshop begins with a theoretical and practical introduction to this sport, explaining the international rules as well as the history of ice stock sport.
Various shots are demonstrated by young club members, explaining the different techniques and technical terms before the participants have the chance to try their own hand at ice stock sport under the guidance of the experts.

Sport climbing

Sport Climbing

As a team sport requiring a partner to hold on to the other end of the rope, climbing is the perfect team-building activity for the Culture & Education Programme, as it encourages communication, trust, reliance on others and can be very empowering. Conquering fears and taking calculated risks are important aspects in growing as a human being.

Activity highlights:

  • Fun get-together at the climbing wall,
  • Introduction to the basic climbing techniques and skills,
  • Climbing as a team sport – the importance of confidence and responsibility,
  • Overcoming fears and experiencing heights,
  • ‘Pendulum swing’ as an attraction at the end of the workshop.
