After having welcomed the Olympic Family in 1964 and 1976, Bergisel Stadium will now stage the Opening Ceremony of the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games on 13 January 2012 – with a fresh and youthful programme.

The Athletes’ Parade, the traditional lighting of the Flame for the Games, a diverse set of show acts – this is sure to be an impressive and memorable Opening Ceremony. The whole programme is created in cooperation with young fans of the Olympic Movement: The costumes and the stage were designed by young students, the Pre-show dance will also be performed by Volunteers. This Olympic Spirit represents a fresh and enthusiastic Austria and an international next Olympic generation, reflecting the motto of these Games.

In addition, Basss-T and Olympia will chat on stage, relive the Games of 1964 and 1976, show us the present in a virtual world and finally jump back to reality.

After all, that’s what Innsbruck 2012 is all about: about a fresh atmosphere embedded in the Olympic Spirit. Not about a big show but about down-to-earth Games full of youthful enthusiasm. It’s about facilitating intercultural dialogue and creating friendships among young people from around the world.
