KAYSHEVA (RUS) claims Gold after perfect shooting performance in Women's 7.5 km Pursuit

SEEFELD, Jan 16 - A flawless shooting display secured the Gold medal for a delighted Uliana KAYSHEVA (RUS) in the Biathlon Women's 7.5 km Pursuit at the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games on Monday.

Franziska PREUSS (GER) had to settle for the Silver medal and Galina VISHNEVSKAYA (KAZ) took the Bronze at the Seefeld Arena.

KAYSHEVA's perfect performance put her in the lead after the first shooting round and she grabbed Gold in a time of 26 minutes, 01.3 seconds.

An emotional KAYSHEVA, who started third in the race, 33 seconds behind PREUSS, declared herself "elated" with the win.

"I shot zero mistakes and I was fast," she said. "That happens so rarely that my performance was like a wonder."

"When I crossed the finish line I couldn't really think of anything, the feeling was so great."

The Russian revealed she felt relaxed going into the competition thanks to the Bronze medal she claimed in the 6 km Sprint event on Sunday.

PREUSS, who won the Gold medal in the 6 km Sprint, missed two shots but secured Silver in a time of 26:29.2.

"I'm happy with this performance," she said. "It was quite good but KAYSHEVA was too strong."

"I'm not sad at all with Silver because in two competitions I have two medals. It's fantastic."

"I didn't get to celebrate yesterday [Sunday] but today I'll celebrate both medals."

Bitterly cold conditions made for a challenging race, with the snow "so slow", according to PREUSS.

VISHNEVSKAYA, who finished 1:43.1 slower than KAYSHEVA to earn the Bronze medal, was disappointed with her marksmanship.

"I wasn't happy with my shooting at all," she said. "Four mistakes are too much."

"I came to this race thinking I would be first and that made me try skiing faster, but then I had my breathing mixed up and that did not help my shooting."
