​In curling, athletes slide a 20kg polished granite stone across a sheet of ice towards a target area called the 'house'. At the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games there will be a Mixed Team Competition featuring teams comprising two male and two female competitors from the same country. Each team has eight stones and must try to have as many stones as possible as close to the centre of the house as possible at the conclusion of each 'end'. Every stone which is closer to the centre than the opponents’ best stone scores one point. A game consists of eight ends. In addition to the Mixed Team Competition, a Mixed Doubles Competition will also be held, featuring one male and one female competitor from different countries playing together in a team.
