Nordic Combined

Nordic combined - Kishimoto

The Nordic Combined competition combines ski jumping and cross-country skiing. The ski jumping element of the event requires dynamic power and precison, while the cross-country race demands endurance and stamina. As is common, the Nordic Combined event will be held only as a men's individual competition at the 1st Winter Youth Olymic Games. In a system known as the 'Gundersen' or 'pursuit start', the results of the ski jumping determine the start order for the cross-country race, with athletes starting seconds or minutes after the leader depending on how many points they are behind after the ski jumping leg. The winner of the Nordic Combined event is the athlete who crosses the finishing line first in the cross-country race.
