At the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games there will be an individual Halfpipe event for men and women. In halfpipe competitions, snowboarders descend an inclined snow trough one at a time, performing a sequence of tricks including acrobatic jumps and flips as they pass from one side to the other. The amount of speed picked up on the run-in determinesthe height of the jumps. Riders are judged on the height, styleand technical difficulty of their manoeuvres.

Slopestyle is a modernand exciting event very popular with younger generations. In January 2012, for the first time ever in the history of theOlympics, there will be a Slopestyle event for men and women at the Winter Youth Olympic Games. In Slopestyle, theyoung athletes descend and perform tricks on a freestyle course with avariety of features including kickers, rails, hits and tables. Riders arefree to select their own line depending on their technical abilityand creativity. A panel of judges awards points depending on the technical difficultyof the manoeuvres and other factors including style and the height of the jumps performed.​
