Olympiaregion Seefeld - high-level Nordic sports
Olympiaregion Seefeld with its five villages Leutasch, Mösern/Buchen, Reith, Scharnitz and Seefeld is located on a south-facing plateau at 1200m above sea level. Surrounded by the Karwendel Alpine Park (the largest nature park in the Eastern Alps), the natural preserve Wildmoos and the Wetterstein mountain range, the region is a symbol for lifestyle, relaxation and easy living.
Having hosted the Nordic events twice at Olympic Games, in 1964 and 1976, the region is known as a mecca for cross-country skiers. For many years, the region has provided ideal conditions for Nordic sports aficionados: no less than 270 kilometres of perfectly groomed tracks for everyone, from beginners to pros.
Last winter, the facilities were enlarged, adding to Seefeld's repertory the Nordic Competence Centre, which offer two newly constructed ski jumps, a cutting-edge biathlon range and a ski roller track. With its new snowmaking facilities, Seefeld is now the undisputed place to be for Nordic sports in the alpine Region.
However, this region is also extremely popular with winter hikers, Nordic walkers, runners and above all skiers. Prepared hiking paths in the heart of the natural surroundings are the perfect place for running in the crisp mountain air. Three small yet fantastic ski resorts bring you to heights of up to 2200m above sea level and to amazing powder slopes!
All cross-country skiing trails will also be open to the general public during the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games.
